Our Movement
Open Up Your Backpack and Take One Thing out.
Life often highlights what we achieve on the outside – responsibilities, expectations, and daily challenges. But what about the unseen struggles like fear, doubt, or loneliness that silently shape our lives? Our movement is to empower individuals with the tools and courage to face life’s challenges.
By fostering connection, self-awareness, and emotional strength, we aim to reshape how families, communities, and organizations support mental well-being. Together, we can inspire confidence, resilience, and purpose in every step forward.

It All Started with One Simple Question..
What are in peoples Invisible Backpacks they are carrying, what is it that we can’t see?
This question inspired William Hartwick to create The Invisible Backpack. After living with Tourette Syndrome, he realized the need for tools that not only address challenges but also build resilience and belonging.
Through the backpack and its stories, William aims to spark a movement—one that empowers individuals to feel seen, understood, and connected while encouraging families, workplaces, and communities to build stronger emotional bonds.
Empowering through Education
Our Principles for Change
At The Invisible Backpack, we believe that small actions can lead to big transformations. By fostering open conversations and building emotional resilience we’re working toward a world where people no longer carry their struggles alone.
Everyone
Matters
We believe that everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and valued, regardless of the challenges they face.
Change Starts
with Conversation
We believe in sparking meaningful dialogue about emotional health to break stigmas and foster acceptance.
Together
Strength Grows
We believe healing happens in community. Our community unites individuals , families, and advocates to nurture emotional resilience, connection, and mental well-being.
If I can inspire just one person to keep going, to feel seen and supported, then I’ve done my job.

Our Mission
Reaching 1% of the world – together
Our goal is to reach every person within the 1%, 83 million lives touched with support, strength, and belonging. That is 83 million lives fortified with tools for resilience, connection, and emotional well-being.
From Hardship to Hope
Meet William Hartwick
William Hartwick knows what it means to carry invisible traumas. Growing up with Tourette Syndrome, he faced challenges that often left him feeling isolated and misunderstood. But through these struggles, he discovered the power of resilience and connection.
As an educator and advocate, William has spent his life helping others navigate the same feelings he experienced as a child. He’s seen how a little courage support can transform a child’s world—how courage and belonging can replace fear and loneliness.
Through this movement, William is turning his own challenges into a mission to movement. The Invisible Backpack is his way of giving back.
