Who is it for?
The Invisible Backpack is for anyone carrying invisible weight, whether from trauma, neurodivergence, or the everyday struggles of being human. It offers support especially for those living with Tourette’s, ADHD, autism, anxiety, OCD, depression, or bipolar disorder. But it’s also for teens, parents, educators, and anyone passionate about emotional well-being.
Whether you’re a young person searching for calm and courage, someone healing from past experiences, or an adult creating safer, more compassionate spaces, this community is here for you. You don’t have to carry it alone.

What’s included in the membership?
Founding members get access to weekly inspirational updates, monthly live sessions with William Hartwick, themed reflection guides, poetry-based SEL resources, community Q&As, guest interviews, and exclusive creative content, all rooted in real-life experiences and healing.
Is this just for people with Tourette’s?
The membership was created with the Tourette’s community in mind, because that’s where William’s story began. Tourette’s often overlaps with other experiences like ADHD, autism, OCD, anxiety, and depression, so the resources are designed to support a wide range of needs. While it’s especially meaningful for those with Tourette’s or related challenges, the tools like reflection, self-acceptance, and emotional regulation are helpful for anyone. In the future, we plan to expand the membership to support even more people navigating invisible struggles.
Can schools or groups sign up?
Yes! We offer group access and school-friendly versions of the tools. If you’re interested in bringing The Invisible Backpack into your classroom, school, university, counseling space, youth groups or workplace we’d love to chat.
Why was it created?
The Invisible Backpack was created by William Hartwick, an award-winning author, former school principal, and certified Tourette’s coach and educational trainer as a response to both his personal journey and professional mission. Diagnosed with Tourette’s and bipolar disorder in adulthood, William spent much of his life navigating challenges without a clear understanding of why he felt so different. Writing became his way to process what words couldn’t express, turning pain into purpose.
As a teacher and later a principal, William became known for leading with empathy and humanity. He created schools where every child felt safe, seen, and valued, especially those carrying invisible struggles. Thousands of students and families were positively impacted by his care and leadership.
The Invisible Backpack grew out of that legacy. It’s a space for emotional healing, storytelling, and growth, for anyone who’s ever felt different, overwhelmed, or alone. It offers the soul-led tools William built over time: reflection, poetry, and radical compassion. No one should have to carry their invisible backpack alone, and now, they don’t have to.
